The news comes just hours after The Hollywood Reporterpublished a report on the Academy's struggle to find an Oscars emcee this year.
Describing the hosting gig as "the least wanted job in Hollywood," the trade ran down the requirements for a host (e.g. funny but not controversial, big enough to boost ratings but not sobig they'd gain nothing from the job) as well as the pitfalls (e.g. relatively low pay, potential media criticism).
Incidentally, Hart was suggested in that same story as someone who might be a good fit for the job: "funny without being tasteless."
The Academy Awards will air February 24, 2019 on ABC.
