Instead, there stood the smaller, less majestic but equally historic Carmarthen castle.
Carmarthen town councillor and tour guide Phil Grice said the blunder has happened more than once.
"The only way we have worked out that people have come to the wrong town is when they seek directions to a church which is not existent in Carmarthen," he said.
"Sadly Carmarthen is much more than a two hour car journey to Caernarfon, so they likely arrive at the correct time too late for the wedding."
"Almost every week when we go to the Carmarthen Castle, someone asks if this is the castle where Prince Charles was made Prince of Wales."
Which it isn't -- that's Caernarfon.
