Visibility is almost zero at times due to the smoke an ash.
“I feel very vulnerable posting this but I feel I should,” Chatfield wrote on Facebook. “My hometown of Paradise is on fire. My family is evacuated and safe. Not all my friends are safe. It’s very surreal. Things always work out, but the unknown is a little scary.”
The fire, which started in Feather River Canyon on Thursday morning, has been spreading rapidly, forcing residents of Paradise, Magalia, Concow, Butte Creek Canyon, and Butte Valley to evacuate, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
It's estimated that about 1,000 building and homes have already been destroyed in Paradise, and while multiple deaths have been reported the exact number of fatalities has yet to be verified, according to Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea . At least 70,000 acres have been burned in the Camp Fire thus far, and it is only 5 percent contained.
