LOS ANGELES -- The Watch Private Gladiator 3 (2002)2016 HearthstoneWorld Championship series was down to two Europeans, and after an exciting 4-2 match, Pavel "Pavel" Beltukov defeated Artem "DrHippi" Kravets in Saturday's BlizzCon grand finals.
Pavel, 18, walked away with the $250,000 first place prize after working his way through the playoffs, knocking out powerhouse players Amnesiac and Jasonzhou. DrHippi took $150,000 of the $1 million prize pool.
SEE ALSO: Big changes are coming to 'Hearthstone' esports in 2017DrHippi took the first game, defeating Pavel's Warrior deck with his own Warrior, and then Pavel had the RNG on his side and took the next three games without too much trouble using his Mage, Druid and Warrior.
With match point looming over him, DrHippi managed to take the next game with his Warlock, taking out Pavel's Rogue. Pavel didn't give up on his Rogue deck, though, coming into the next game strong and steamrolling over DrHippi's Druid for the 4-2 win.
With that win, Pavel's record against Druids bumped up to 12-0, an impressive number for anyone playing the game.
The third and fourth place finishers, China's Jasonzhou and South Korea's Che0nsu each walked away from BlizzCon with $100,000.
