This Donald Trump Jr. story is Canada Archivesone that just won't quit, and Shep Smith continued to prove himself as Fox News'voice of reason today when he got wind of an eighth confirmed participant in Trump Jr.'s 2016 meetings with a Russian lawyer.
SEE ALSO: Stephen Colbert predicts Donald Trump Jr.'s future using genius diagramThe news of the eighth (!!!) person came from CNN, after the Associated Pressreported Friday that a Russian-American lobbyist named Rinat Akhmetshin had also attended the meeting, bringing the list of known participants to: Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, Akhmetshin, music publicist Rob Goldstone (who helped set up the meeting) plus a translator and a representative of the Russian family who had asked Goldstone to set up the meeting.
Smith was visibly agitated by the news, to say the least, and he basically word vomited a repetition of the Trump administration's denial that anything untoward or illegal took place:

"If there's nothing there -- and that's what they tell us; they tell us there's nothing to this, and nothing came of it, there's a nothing burger, it wasn't even memorable, didn't write it down, didn't tell you about it, cause it wasn't anything, so I didn't even remember it!"
Wowza.
While we can only raise our hands in a silent "amen" to Smith's reaction, Fox'sloyal following did not feel the same way. Many even called for Smith to be fired.

Smith has been one of the lone voices of dissent against the Trump administration at Fox News. Smith famously explained what "fake news" actuallywas to Trump on-air, defended CNN'sJim Acosta, and countered Trump's bogus Obama wiretapping claim earlier this year.
Thanks for (sometimes) trying to make Fox News sane, Shep.
