Our president can Peggy Markoffrest easy tonight, knowing he finally got a big Emmy win -- only in the form of Alec Balwdin accepting his award for impersonating him on Saturday Night Live.
"I suppose I should say at long last Mr. President, here is your Emmy," he said, addressing the leader of the free world through his preferred manner of communication: television.
Via GiphyBaldwin's joke was made in reference to Trump's hurt feels over never winning an Emmy for his reality TV show, The Apprentice. Earlier in the night, host Stephen Colbert played a clip from the 2016 presidential debates showing that Trump still hasn't gotten over the "Emmy snub."
After Baldwin thanked his family, SNLcreator Lorne Michaels, the show's writers, and his fellow actors, the speech took a turn for the more somber at the end.
"When you die you don’t remember a bill that congress passed or a decision the supreme court made, or an address made by the president, you remember a song, you remember a line from a movie, you remember a play, you remember a book, a painting, a poem," he said, addressing the existential crisis many in entertainment find themselves in during this time of political turmoil.
"What we do is important. And for all of you out there in motion pictures and television, don’t stop doing what you are doing, the audience is counting on you."
